The verbs forzar and almorzar in the present subjunctive

Reminder: a lot of verbs ending in -zar form the present subjunctive by replacing the z with a c:

Finalizar → Finalice

Finalizar (to finish) → Finalice (finish)

Alcanzar → Alcance

Alcanzar (to reach) → Alcance (reach)

The verbs forzar (to force) and almorzar (to have lunch) follow this pattern, but they present an additional irregularity. These are the conjugations:

Forzar
Yo fuerce
Tú fuerces
Él/ella/usted fuerce
Nosotros/as forcemos
Vosotros/as forcéis
Ellos/ellas/ustedes fuercen
Almorzar en
Yo almuerce
Tú almuerces
Él/ella/usted almuerce
Nosotros/as almorcemos
Vosotros/as almorcéis
Ellos/ellas/ustedes almuercen

No es necesario que fuerces la llave para abrir la puerta.

You don't need to force the key to open the door.

Me pidieron que almuerce más temprano.

I was asked to have lunch earlier.

Note: the verbs derived from forzar (like reforzar, "to reinforce", and the pronominal verb esforzarse, “to make an effort”) have the same irregularity.

Es importante que se refuerce el sistema de seguridad reforzar, subj. presente.

It's important that the security system be reinforced.

Quisiera que te esfuerces un poco más esforzarse, subj. presente.

I would like you to make a little more effort.
